The service of neonatology as a clinical service that care of the newborn with different problems is also included and offers kangaroo mother care for premature babies.
Typical work activities include:
- Arranging and providing parenting and health education for the woman, her partner and family members;
- Encouraging participation of family members in the birth to support the mother and enhance both mother/baby bonding and family relationships;
- Offering support and advice following events such, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death;
- Giving support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breast feeding, bathing and making up feeds;
- Providing advice and guidance on a safe and timely transfer home
- Offering general health information, including reproductive health care and family planning
- Assisting women to successfully breastfeed
- Referring newborns for higher level care when complications arise after childbirth.
- Providing additional health services in communities such as immunizations and treatment of common illnesses.
- Liaising with agencies and other health and social care professionals to ensure continuity of care;
