Rutongo hospital is one of the most ancient hospitals of Rwanda. It was constructed in 1938 by SOMUKI (sociétélge d’exploitation des mines) for its personnel. Also let us signal that it was a reference hospital for all Belgians who worked on epoch in Rwanda.  In 1982, the hospital had an extension considering the number of users. New motherhood, chemist's shop (pharmacy), service of reception was constructed.

Rutongo hospital, as quite other health institution was ransacked in 1994. At the end of this year, it was covered thanks to South North ONG Action and Italian ONG AssociazioneSolidalieta é Suiluppo (ASS). In 1998, these 2 ONGs were replaced with CTB, the Belgian Technical Cooperation which contributed until today, in the functioning of the said hospital.

Rutongo hospital was located in the Northern Province, Rulindo district, Masoro sector, Shengampuli cell now it relocated in Rulindo District, Ngoma Sector, Mugote Cell. Rutongo District Hospital is located Ngoma sector, Rulindo District which is in Northern Province, in 21 km from Karuruma. It is constructed in 1938 by SOMUKI. Since July 2015, the Hospital relocated  its operations from Masoro Sector to Ngoma in July 2015.
